Getting a good Google rank is as much an art as a science. But, luckily, it's not too tough either, especially if you happen to have a unique domain name, or one that corresponds to your own unique first and last name.
Here's the most important factor for good Google ranking: incoming links.
For Google to find you, it needs a link to your site. If it gets this link from another website, it assumes that you are at least somewhat popular, and that your content is of some value. Therefore, you will be given a higher rank.
The good news is this: if you are an artist with an icompendium site, and you've chosen "yourname.com" as your domain name, then you stand a very good chance of being returned within the first page of Google results when someone Googles "Your Name." Though, it can take a couple weeks from the time you get your first incoming link to actually see this happen.
If you don't get the results that are described above, let me know and I'll help you diagnose and fix the situation.
